Web Proxy Services

A Web Proxy service is a cache engine, that will fetch web pages from the internet for a browser, and where it can, it will use a locally cached copy. By using a Web Proxy savings for a total internet session are approximately 30% of traffic.

To take advantage of the proxy, please have a look at the instructions for your web browser.

Please note: FTP Programs such as WS_FTP and Fetch cannot use the proxy. These programs do not perform ftp requests using http format which the proxy requires. To use ftp via the proxy, you must use a web browser. (ie Netscape, MS Internet Explorer, Mozilla or Opera)

Direct proxy information settings are no longer supported. ITS will only support autocache as the method of connecting to the proxy. Users are free to figure out manual settings and use them at their discretion, but ITS will neither support them nor give notification of changes to the proxy service, thus causing their manual settings to fail.

Because autocache is the only method supported, users are enouraged to use a modern browser.

You may download a recent browser (local copies) from here.
