VMware Academic Term License Agreement (ATLA)
Contract Summary
Murdoch University has signed a 3 year VMware Academic Term License
Agreement (ATLA) that in exchange for an annual payment allows Murdoch to
install and operate unlimited numbers of the covered server products. This
VMware ATLA agreement has been negotiate by the Council of Australia
University Directors of IT (CAUDIT) on behalf of all Australian Universities and
has the one common agreement document that applies to any university taking up
the deal.
- The current VMware ATLA agreement runs from 31-Mar-2008 till 31-Mar-2011.
- The agreement is centrally funded through ITS.
- The agreement only covers the SERVER products which are listed below.
- Unlimited numbers of the covered server products can been installed but only
on Murdoch University
owned computers.
Products Licensed
Murdoch University is covered for following software,
including corresponding Updates and Upgrades.
- VirtualCenter Management Server (including VMware Converter, Enterprise)
- VMware Infrastructure, Enterprise Edition:
VMware ESX Server, including VMware VMFS (Virtual Machine File System)
Virtual SMP
VirtualCenter Agent
VMotion
VMware DRS (Distributed Resource Scheduler)
VMware HA (High Availability)
VMware Consolidated Backup
Note: Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI) is excluded from this ATLA, and
the Software may not be used to create a virtual desktop infrastructure
(e.g., hosted desktop solution).
Licence Conditions
- The current VMware ATLA agreement runs from 31-Mar-2008 till 31-Mar-2011.
- The agreement is centrally funded through ITS.
- The agreement only covers the SERVER products which are listed above.
- Unlimited numbers of the covered server products can been installed but only
on Murdoch University
owned computers.
- VMware shall provide Murdoch University with Platinum level support
services.
- Installation of software onto staff home computers or student owned or leased workstations is
not allowed.
- At the end of the ATLA Period, if Murdoch chooses not to renew the
agreement then Murdoch must:
(i) Report to VMware the total number of Software licenses deployed during
the ATLA Period; and
(ii) Allow VMware to conduct an audit to verify that the Software has been
removed in accordance with this Agreement.
Murdoch must then purchase sufficient license to cover all continued use.
Obtaining and Installing Symantec Software
As this software is server based contact the ITS Service Desk for further

All on campus installation will be performed by IT support staff so contact
the
IT Service Desk with any questions.
Support
In connection with this ATLA agreement, VMware shall provides Murdoch
University with Platinum level Services for the Software
Manuals
Manuals are supplied electronically with the software and online.
Staff Home Use
This is server software and not available for staff home use.
