Getting Started with IT at Murdoch (for New Staff )

Your Murdoch Username and Password

Before you can access many of the electronic resources available at Murdoch University you will need to know your Murdoch Username and Murdoch Password.

Your Murdoch Username

As a new staff member, you will be allocated a Staff Number by our Human Resources office. This Staff Number is also your Murdoch Username. It will be 8 characters long and you will use it frequently, so keep it handy or even better - memorise it!

Normally new staff have been allocated a Staff Number prior to commencing work, but if this is not the case for you, please enquire with the Administration Officer in your School/Office/Area or contact the Human Resources Office directly.

Your Murdoch Password

In some cases your Murdoch Password will have been collected for you by someone in your section. If your password has not already been collected for you, you will need to:

  • Download and print a Murdoch Password Request Form (pdf). (If you are unable to print one of these forms, or find someone who will do it for you, the iT Service Counter will be able to provide you with one)

  • Complete the 'Applicant's Details' section of the form and take it with some photo ID to the IT Service Counter (South Street Campus staff), or the Rockingham Community Campus Library counter (Rockingham Campus staff), or the office of the Peel Campus IT Support Officer (Peel Campus staff). (A Murdoch University ID card is the preferred form of photo ID).

Note: If you are both a staff member and a student, you will have two Murdoch Usernames. These will each access different resources. Remember to use the one appropriate at the time.

There is no reason you should ever need to reveal your Murdoch Password to another person, in fact the Conditions of Use for the Murdoch Network require that you do not! Please report any issues relating to this to the IT Security section.

If it is not possible for you to attend a Murdoch Password collection point in person, please refer to the instructions for "Off Campus Staff"

and access many other resources..
