Setting your SPAM filter in Microsoft Entourage 2004 (Macintosh)To filter unsolicited email (SPAM) in Microsoft Entourage 2004 (Macintosh), you need to create a rule that moves any message identified as SPAM into a separate folder. The following documentation applies to an Entourage mailbox that is configured to connect with the University's Microsoft Exchange system. Step 1Create a SPAM folder in Entourage. Right click on your Inbox icon and choose New Subfolder from the menu list.
Step 2Name the new folder, SPAM. This is the folder that email identified as SPAM will be moved to.
Step 3From the Tools menu, select Rules.
Step 4Select Mail (Exchange) and then click the New button to create a new rule.
Step 5Give the new rule a name. In this example we are calling the rule, SPAM Filter.
Step 6In the If section of the rule, check that Execute is set to if all criteria are met.
Step 7Also in the If section of the rule click All messages and select Specific header from the list.
Step 8Set the criterion as described below. For Specific header, type in the text: X-Spam-Level [This text is case sensitive so please make sure it is entered correctly.] Choose Contains from the second list and type in the text: *** The mail server assigns a number of asterisks to all incoming mail based on the likelihood that it is SPAM. The higher the number of asterisks, the more likely it is SPAM. Using less than three asterisks may filter email that is not SPAM (ie. wanted email). You may adjust the number of asterisks later to suit your specific filtering needs.
Step 9In the Then section of the rule, click Remove Action twice to remove the existing default actions.
Step 10Click Add Action.
Step 11Set the action to Move message.
Step 12Change the destination folder by selecting Choose folder... from the list.
Step 13Select the SPAM folder that you created earlier. Click the Choose button.
Step 14Click the OK button to set the new rule in place.
Step 15Click the close button to return to Entourage. All incoming email that is marked with three or more asterisks will be moved to the SPAM folder.
