Office of Information Technology Services

What We Do ...

The Office of IT Services has overall responsibility for planning, developing and operating Murdoch's central information and communications infrastructure. But IT no longer is confined to the computer room. In a modern organisation like Murdoch, it is everywhere in the workplace. Our traditional role is being extended as we develop new services to assist staff and students use IT more effectively, through better planning, education and assistance of end-users, and support for IT staff in the Divisions. We focus particularly on the following areas of benefit to the University:

  • Development of an overall University IT Strategy.
  • Critical business systems and integration of University management information online.
  • Development of fast, reliable telecommunications networks, especially unification of voice, video and data services into an efficient service.
  • Unified support for all strategic IT systems and central computing laboratories.
  • Management services and support for strategic IT projects.
  • Support for World Wide Web and Internet technologies.
  • IT security policies and strategies to protect Murdoch users, systems, and information in the world of the Internet.
  • Better support for IT in the Offices and Divisions, through effective collaboration with IT Liaison Officers, the Library and the Teaching & Learning Centre.
  • Development and promulgation of appropriate IT standards.
  • User empowerment through more timely and helpful online IT information.
  • Support for educational applications of technology, online and in the classroom.
  • Better use of our IT dollar through evaluation of hardware and software products, site licences and bulk purchasing arrangements.
